Irritating echo is the most awkward and unbearable thing happening during a phone call, making an otherwise smoothly going conversation a big headache. Both the parties involved in the conversation want to discontinue the talk as soon as possible. What iPhone, Blackberry, or Samsung, this echo problem seems to chase cell phone users across handsets indiscriminately. Interestingly, this appears anytime without any prior warning and lasts for a very small time. But surprisingly, before you take a breath full of relaxation; this recurs to steal your peace.
Why does this echo happen – is this because you are doing something wrong? Most importantly, can you do anything to fix this?
Let’s discuss the first question first. To your surprise, way before the cellular technology of today introduced, engineers have been trying to deal with echo since the mid of 20th century. Side tone is held responsible for the echo during your phone calls. Phone manufacturers use this for you so that both sides know they are on live call. Sometimes, it happens that you keep speaking but soon feel the person on the other side is not there on call, but the person is exactly on the call. This happens when side tone is not working fine. The echo problem happens when the side tone goes out of sync for some or the other reason. Several times, echo happens not because of the side tone but because of the other person on the phone call – he uses the speaker, Bluetooth, or earphone.
So as you have got the answer for your first question, we should now move to the next question. The good news is, you are not responsible for the echo on your phone. The bad news is, you cannot do much about this. However, when you notice echo, you can try these below-given steps.
Change your current location–
Maybe this is because the room or building you are in has thick walls that are obstructing the network signals. A weak signal can be the reason behind this problem, so leave the place – either go on the roof or out of the building. If the weak signal is behind the issue, the problem will resolve.
Disconnect & Reconnect–
Instead of continuing an irritating phone call, you can request the other person on the phone call to disconnect and reconnect the same. Otherwise, you can disconnect the call after informing the issue to him and then make the call again.
Charge the Device–
Your phone might have a low battery because of which your phone is trying to save power that is creating the problem for side tone to do its job. Connect your phone to the charger, and then the problem may disappear if this is the actual reason behind the problem.
